Kayla’s role will involve developing innovative design ideas, creating digital models and renderings, selecting finishes, creating design documentation and preparing design presentations. As part of a top 10 global design firm, Kayla is looking forward to collaborating with a diverse network of professionals and being part of a team that pushes design boundaries to create lasting, impactful spaces.

How HPU helped you get there: “High Point University gave me the confidence to chase my goals and believe in my abilities. The design program is top-notch, and having access to the High Point Market right in the furniture capital of the world, meant instant industry connections and real-world experience. The supportive environment and amazing faculty pushed me to grow, not just as a designer but as a professional ready to take on anything. Additionally, having the opportunity to study abroad in Florence, Italy, completely transformed my perspective, not only on design but on life itself, broadening my horizons and helping me see the world in a whole new light.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Brandon Jones, Instructor of Home Furnishings and Interior Design, has been my most impactful mentor at HPU. Not only is he an incredible professor, but he’s also been a huge help in navigating job applications, sharing his own experiences in the industry and the hiring process. Professor Jones was responsible for a lot of the technical design teaching in the design programs we use, and without him, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Beyond that, he truly cares about his students and takes so much pride in seeing us succeed, which makes all the difference.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “I truly think my most impactful moment at HPU was when I received my first few job offers. It was a validation of all the hard work, late nights and dedication I had put in—proving that everything was worth it. High Point really set me up for success and if you told me four years ago that I’d be extended a job offer from a top 10 global design firm, I would’ve never believed it. Everything HPU has instilled in me over the last four years came together all at once when I accepted my post-grad offer and that moment was undoubtedly the most impactful of my time at HPU.”

How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU’s inspiring environment has played a huge role in building my confidence and work ethic. Being surrounded by driven, successful people—both students and faculty—pushes you to rise to that same level and develop the skills needed to stand out. Seeing so many people succeed firsthand teaches you the traits that make a difference. That kind of exposure and expectation is what sets HPU apart and prepares us for real-world success.”

What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “High Point’s biggest life skill takeaway for me was professionalism. After a variety of interviews with different companies, one of the most common compliments I received was how professional I came across and I know that’s because of the high expectations set at HPU. The environment here pushes you to present yourself well, communicate effectively and go the extra mile because what you put into a situation is exactly what you get out of it.”

What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “High Point University instilled in me the values of leadership, resilience and ambition. Being in an environment that constantly pushed me to strive for excellence taught me that success comes from hard work, adaptability and always presenting my best self. These values will stick with me long after graduation, shaping how I approach my career and every opportunity that comes my way.”

Advice for underclassmen: “Embrace every opportunity that High Point gives you. There’s no other university that provides such incredible speakers, opportunities and success networks. Four years of undergrad fly by, so take full advantage of everything—join clubs, meet new people and try new things. Don’t sweat the small stuff and remember that everything happens for a reason. I will forever cherish my four years here, and all the experiences that have shaped me to who I am today.”
