Here’s a quick glimpse at one of many impressive outcomes HPU graduates achieve.
Name: Kristina Lincoln, Class of 2025
Hometown: Old Bridge, New Jersey
Major: Business Administration, minors in Political Science and Healthcare Management
Post-graduation plans: Kristina plans to continue her education by pursuing a Master’s in Public Health – Health Policy Management at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
How HPU helped you get there: “High Point University has truly shaped who I am today, both professionally and personally. From day one, I felt supported by a community that encouraged growth, leadership, and curiosity. The hands-on learning experiences, like studying international marketing in Spain, helped me step outside my comfort zone and gain a real-world perspective. Through my roles on campus, from being an Undergraduate Supervisor in Residence Life to joining the Community Investors Program, I developed leadership, communication, and time-management skills that I now use in every professional setting.
HPU also helped me discover the value of service and connection. Whether completing over 200 hours of community service during my time here with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated and Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity or mentoring new students through the Impact Mentorship Program, I learned how much I enjoy helping others. These experiences have not only prepared me for future opportunities but have also grounded me in purpose and direction. I’m leaving HPU confident, capable, and excited for what’s ahead and I know the foundation I built here will stay with me always.”
How you used Career and Professional Development: “Since Freshman Year, I regularly had appointments in the office to review my LinkedIn and resume. When it came time to apply to graduate school, I worked with Samantha Gates Reese to craft a personal statement and CV. I am also a part of the 2024-2025 cohort of the Community Investors Program. Because of this program, I have been exposed to many careers in the High Point Area and have been able to network with professionals in my intended career.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Dr. David Bergen, Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship, was my most impactful mentor at HPU. From receiving him as an academic advisor in my second semester freshman year to now, he has encouraged me in all things. As my academic advisor he encouraged me to take classes that challenged me. In terms of extracurriculars, he encouraged me in all of the leadership positions I held. He also supported me throughout the entire process of applying to graduate school. Because of him and his recommendation, I will be attending Emory University for my Master’s of Public Health. Thank you, Dr. Bergen, for supporting me in all things and for always reminding me that I am extraordinary.”
Advice for underclassmen: “My greatest piece of advice would be to get involved during your time at HPU. One of the main reasons I was accepted into all of the graduate programs I applied to was because of how well-rounded my experiences were. Being involved in leadership roles, service opportunities, and professional development programs helped me build a strong resume, but more importantly, it helped me grow as a person. Your time here is what you make of it, so take advantage of every opportunity to learn, lead, and connect. It’ll make a huge difference after graduation.”
