Major: Electrical Engineering; minor in Mathematics
Internship plans: Ashley will be interning at Burns & McDonnell as their Controls Engineering Intern in Raleigh, North Carolina. As a Controls Engineering Intern, her responsibilities consist of supporting the design, development and implementation of control systems for industrial and utility projects. Additionally, she will be assisting with creating control panel layouts, wiring diagrams, PLC and HMI programming and field commissioning, while gaining hands-on experience with automation technologies and engineering standards.
How HPU helped you get there: “HPU helped me get to where I am now through the excellent guidance of my professors and their great insight into the engineering industry.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Dr. Eve Klopf — Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering– was my most impactful mentor at HPU. She helped me tailor my internship search to opportunities that were the best fit for me within North Carolina.”
How you used Career & Professional Development: “Through the Office of Career and Professional Development, I worked with Katie Davidson to improve my resume and cover letter for multiple applications that I had sent out for the job application.”
Advice for underclassmen: “Find a job that interests you in an industry that interests you. The motivation and good work ethic are easy to get once you’re working on something you care about.”
