How HPU helped you get there: “High Point has encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and surround myself with like-minded individuals who pushed me to my greatest potential. Being a student at High Point has transformed my outlook on life and has made me more confident in myself to strive to achieve great goals now in post grad. If it were not for coming here, I doubt I would have been able to gain the professional experiences that I have now gained.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “There were many professors I thought had great influence on my time at HPU. Whether that be Professor Lillian Watson the Director of Business Communications Program and her advising through my college career, or Professor Thomas James, Professor of the Practice of Finance, and his great influence on me to pursue a career in finance. These individuals are what made the High Point education experience that much better and I thank them immensely for it.”
Most impactful moment at HPU: “I wouldn’t say there has been one specific impactful moment that has defined my HPU experience, but over the course of the last few years, being a student, I have found a great community of friends who have pushed me and have wanted me to succeed. If it were not for these individuals, I would not be where I am today. So, the most impactful moment in my opinion, are the friends that make every moment an impactful moment every time I stepped on campus, making every day feel just a little more like home to me.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “Being surrounded by motivated individuals is inspiring to me. One of my goals while being in school was to surround myself with people who would make me a better professional and a better person, and coming to High Point, it was not hard to find those people.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “High Point helped me develop a plethora of life skills ranging from networking, critical thinking, public speaking and even personal professional confidence. These foundational skills are key to long term success, especially in an ever-changing career force. These skills are what give me my competitive advantage.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “Knowing that home is more than just a place, it’s people. The people I met here at HPU are crucially important to my personal development and now that I have graduated, High Point will always be my home and the people I met there, will always be my family.”
Advice for underclassmen: “Never give up. I went through upwards of 100 job applications and many interviews to be able to land the job that I was offered. It takes time and commitment and patience. So, don’t give up. It may get hard at times, but just know, there is a brighter future ahead.”
