Here’s a quick glimpse at one of many impressive outcomes HPU graduates achieve.
Name: Emily Lawler, Class of 2025
Hometown: Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania
Major: Business Administration; minors in Biology and Healthcare Management
Internship plans: Emily interned at Zimmer Biomet as their Marketing Communications Intern in Warsaw, Indiana. During her marketing communications internship, she was provided the opportunity to plan and execute digital marketing campaigns, including content creation, social media management and email marketing. How HPU helped you get there: “HPU has given me the resources to perfect my resume and my interview strategy. There have been multiple opportunities to speak with a professional in the Office of Career and Professional Development before submitting my resume and cover letter. Whether it be in class, at a club event, online, or by appointment, I gained the confidence to grow and succeed in my professional development at HPU!”
How you used Career & Professional Development: “I used the Office of Career & Professional Development Center to polish my resume and have used the online resources they have provided. Resources like VMock and Big Interview have been keys to my success.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “My most impactful mentor at HPU has been Dr. Greg Page, Professor of the Practice of Healthcare Management. Dr. Page has been encouraging and nothing but helpful whenever I have questions or when I am looking for healthcare-related advice. Dr. Page’s classes and their welcoming environment have made me want to pursue an internship in healthcare. I am appreciative of all the things Dr. Page has done to advance the healthcare management program at HPU!”
What has your internship experience been like and how is it preparing you for your future? “My experience at Zimmer Biomet has been incredible — I have loved every second! I gained hands-on experience in digital marketing and communications, from managing social media and creating content to analyzing data and executing email campaigns. Working with the marketing communications team and key stakeholders has taught me the importance of collaboration and adaptability in a professional setting, it also gave me a clearer understanding of how to apply my classroom knowledge to real-world marketing strategies. I am grateful for this past summer and am excited to return to Zimmer Biomet again this summer for another internship!”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU’s campus is unlike anything I have seen before. The inspiring and uplifting atmosphere has been influential to my success. The classrooms, students, statues and artwork remind me where I came from and how I became the person I am today. I am thankful that HPU has worked hard to make its students successful.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “HPU helped me develop essential life skills such as effective communication, adaptability and leadership. Through hands-on experiences, professional development opportunities and team projects, I learned how to think critically, present confidently and work efficiently in unique, collaborative environments.”
Advice for underclassmen: “My advice for underclassmen is to say “yes” to every opportunity you are given. Say “yes” to meet Executives in Residence. Say “yes” to a Fine-Dining and Learning Lab Experiences. Say “yes” to having Career and Professional Development look over your resume. These opportunities are unique to HPU, and shouldn’t be taken for granted.”
