HIGH POINT, N.C., May 12, 2025 – Jorgen Krone, who graduated from High Point University in 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in political science, has been awarded the David L. Boren Fellowship for 2025-2026 to study Arabic at the Qasid Arabic Institute in Amman, Jordan.
The Boren Fellowship Program funds research and language study for graduate students in world regions critical to the interests of the United States. Fellowship recipients are committed to careers in public service. After their fellowship ends, they work in positions that are important to U.S. national security throughout the federal government, including the departments of State, Defense and Homeland Security.
“This opportunity means the world to me, not only as a chance to immerse myself in a region I’m passionate about but also as the next step toward my long-term goal of serving as a foreign service officer,” said Krone, a native of Wilmette, Illinois, who has been studying Arabic with a Jordanian tutor over the past year. “After my time in Jordan, I’ll be pursuing graduate studies at the Institute of World Politics, focusing on National Security and Statecraft with a specialization in Intelligence.”
Krone worked with HPU’s Office of National Fellowships and Awards in applying for the Boren Fellowship and recognized the support he received during his time at HPU. He was also one of 11 HPU students and alumni who were named as semifinalists for the 2025-26 Fulbright U.S. Student Program.
“My professors, mentors and friends at High Point University pushed me to grow, challenged me to think bigger and believed in me even when I doubted myself,” said Krone, who works as a business development specialist for Gallagher.
Krone thanked his family for being his foundation. His parents and siblings showed the love, guidance and belief in his dreams that have kept him grounded and focused. “And above all, I thank God for opening the right doors at the right times and for the strength to walk through them,” Krone said.
