HPU Earns American Heart Association Gold Award Again for Healthy Workplace

HIGH POINT, N.C., May 9, 2025 – High Point University’s Employee Wellness Program has earned a “gold” level recognition from the American Heart Association’s 2025 Workforce Well-being Works Better Scorecard for a fourth consecutive year. This is the eighth time the association has recognized HPU’s Employee Wellness Program since 2015.

The American Heart Association has defined best practices for employers to use to build a culture of health and well-being for their workforce. The Workforce Well-being Scorecard measures the extent to which a company has implemented the best practices. Employers recognized at the “gold” level have achieved a score of 183-216 out of a maximum of 230 points.

HPU’s Employee Wellness Program is open to all staff and faculty, who can earn points for completing various wellness activities offered on campus. They have access to free annual health screenings, health seminars, an employee 5K run, intramural sports and an employee fitness facility. The program also provides resources to encourage healthy approaches to nutrition, sleep, stress reduction and weight management.

In addition to their physical health, the university supports employees in building their emotional, social, intellectual, spiritual and occupational well-being, said Kailey Cox, HPU’s director of employee wellness.

“Earning gold for the American Heart Association’s Well-being Works Better award is a tremendous honor for High Point University’s Employee Wellness Program,” said Cox, who is a Class of 2018 Master’s of Public Health alumna. “It signifies our dedication to fostering a culture of health and well-being within our organization, aligning with the highest standards recognized by a leading authority in health. This prestigious recognition validates the positive impact our program has on the lives of our employees.”
