Post-graduation plans: Jaime will begin her career as an Architectural Designer at P&H Interiors in Coral Springs, Florida. Jaime will be responsible for designing and producing a set of ID work drawings using AutoCAD, including all details for architectural interior projects. This includes furniture plans, framing plans, electrical plans, reflected ceiling plans, molding plans and flooring plans.
How HPU helped you get there: “High Point University helped shape both my personal and professional development by offering an environment that emphasized values, leadership and innovation. The faculty and mentors at HPU didn’t just teach—they invested in me, offering guidance, support and real-world experiences that challenged me to think critically and act with purpose.”
How you used the Office of Career and Professional Development: “The Office of Career & Professional Development at HPU was a key part of my career preparation. I worked with the team to refine my resume and cover letters, practice for interviews, and explore internship opportunities that aligned with my goals.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “My most impactful mentor at HPU is the Dean of the David R Hayworth Schools of Arts and Design and Professor of Interior Design, Dr. John Turpin. He was a memorable mentor to me as he was someone who wanted to see me succeed in my professional career by guiding me through every milestone here at HPU.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “HPU helped me develop essential life skills that go far beyond the classroom—skills that have prepared me for long-term success both professionally and personally. One of the biggest was effective communication—learning how to express ideas clearly and confidently in any setting. I also gained strong time management and organizational habits, which have been key in balancing responsibilities and staying focused on my goals.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “HPU’s campus culture helped instill values and virtues that I’ll carry with me long after graduation. Integrity, respect, and a strong sense of personal responsibility were emphasized in every aspect of campus life—from the classroom to community involvement. The university’s focus on service, gratitude, and kindness taught me the importance of leading with empathy and making a positive impact wherever I go.”
Advice for underclassmen: “My biggest advice for underclassmen is to be intentional with your time and take advantage of every opportunity HPU offers. Build relationships with your professors, get involved on campus, and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone—those experiences will shape your confidence and open doors. Start thinking about your career early: visit Career & Professional Development, polish your resume, and seek out internships to gain real-world experience.”
