How HPU helped you get there: “HPU has been a turning point in my life, great professors and a great group of friends have shaped me into the hard-working and dependable person I am today.”
How you used the Office of Career & Professional Development: ” I used the Office of Career & Professional development many times. I worked through countless resume drafts and suggestions, internship searching, and many LinkedIn/ Handshake navigation lessons throughout my 4 years. I am grateful for the assistance HPU’s Career & Professional development office has given me.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Easy. HPU President Dr. Nido Qubein. I’m beyond grateful that the face of my university is one who is so well-spoken, wise in his actions and has found great success throughout his life. Seeing someone come from so little in the early stages of life to the success he is now has been truly inspiring to me, as well as my family. I plan on reading as many of Dr. Qubein’s books as I can once I get settled!”
Most impactful moment at HPU: “Summer Advantage in 2021. I met my core friends and got my first classes out of the way. It felt great being in a new state and having a new environment, I knew I was going to thrive once the regular semester started up in the fall.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “Everywhere around me, there are successful people at High Point University. Successful staff, successful parents and students, everyone is pushing for me to be better in life and pursue the life I want to live. Since day 1 of fall semester freshman year, I have been surrounded by success, therefore, I will absolutely find success in my career.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “A few life skills I have honed are Time Management, Problem Solving with a team and Self-sufficiency.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “Something that has stuck with me is from one of President Qubein’s early seminars as a freshman- “You get out what you put in”. This idea that college was whatever I made of it allowed me to identify my successes and capitalize on them early on, and make steps towards beginning my career in a short 4 years.”
Advice for underclassmen: “Spend some time every day doing something you aren’t good at or confident in. Whatever it is that you do, you’re growing- that is all it takes to feel like (and become) a new person. It feels great.”
