Major: Sports Media; minor in Journalism

Internship plans: Alexis will be interning for USA Baseball this summer as their Athletic Communications Intern in Cary, North Carolina. As the Athletic Communications Intern, she will create, edit and manage written content for the organization’s website, including game recaps, press releases and feature stories, while maintaining historical records and statistics. Alexis will also support national teams and events by serving as a media contact, overseeing press box operations and coordinating social media and content creation in collaboration with the creative team. Additionally, she will analyze campaign performance, pitch creative ideas and help drive audience engagement across platforms to elevate the USA Baseball brand.

How HPU helped you get there: “HPU prepared me for every obstacle I may face in a day-to-day work environment and the skills I learned I apply every day. The experiences and hands-on learning are extremely valuable.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Dr. Bobby Hayes, Chair and Professor of the Practice of Journalism, is my most impactful mentor at HPU. He always holds me and other students to the highest standards possible in life, as well as in journalism. Dr. Hayes has provided me with a foundation I will take with me everywhere.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “Being chosen to write for High Point’s Men’s Basketball first appearance in the NCAA tournament was my most impactful moment at HPU. The experience and opportunity to go were amazing, but the learning experience and work I was able to produce will forever stay with me.”

What has your internship experience been like and how is it preparing you for your future? “My internship is providing me with real-world job experience, allowing me to gain hands-on experience, work with high-profile athletes and develop skills that will apply to any job in the future.”

What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “HPU helped me develop skills such as professionalism and communication.”

Advice for underclassmen: “Take advantage of all the opportunities provided! Go for the job or internship that you think is a reach. Anything is possible as long as you put in the work and get the most out of every opportunity that is provided to you.”
