Name: Brianna Rapaccioli, Class of 2025

Hometown: Scarsdale, New York

Major: Interior Design

Post-graduation plans: Brianna is heading to Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, to pursue her Master’s in Architecture.

How HPU helped you get there: “When I first entered the Interior Design program as a freshman, I felt insecure about not having an art background and worried that it would hold me back. What I didn’t expect was how supportive the faculty would be — they truly understood that each of us came from different starting points and skill levels. They taught me everything I know, from the fundamentals of hand drafting to mastering digital tools that have elevated the quality of my projects and how I communicate them. These skills will serve as a strong foundation as I prepare to begin my Master’s in Architecture, giving me the confidence and resilience needed to persevere through the challenges ahead.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Every faculty member in the School of Arts and Design has guided me in ways that have shaped my growth over the past four years. I’ve always valued building connections wherever I go, and having the privilege of an entire faculty who served as mentors is something I’ll always hold close. The support, encouragement and genuine investment they’ve shown in my journey are what made my experience at HPU so special. Their guidance, belief in me and the foundation they helped me build have made all the difference. Whatever success I find in the future, I’ll owe so much of it to them.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “One of my most impactful experiences at HPU was spearheading the conversation that led to the renovation of the School of Arts and Design. This opportunity allowed me to collaborate with university leadership, apply my skills in communication and problem-solving, as well as contribute to creating a more inspiring environment for students. Leading this process while still attending classes taught me that meaningful change doesn’t require a formal position of power, but perspective, care and initiative. This experience, and the trust the university placed in me, remains one of the most formative and rewarding of my college journey. It serves as a constant reminder to lead with intention and courage as I move forward in my career.”

How you used Career & Professional Development: “I took advantage of HPU’s Career and Professional Development resources by attending seminars through the Life Skills and Leadership Series. I had the privilege of hearing from inspiring professionals like Cynt Marshall, former CEO of the Dallas Mavericks, as well as Steve Wozniak, Co-Founder of Apple. Listening to their stories, values and advice offered a perspective you can’t find in a textbook. It is truly an experience that sets HPU apart.”

What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “One of the most important life skills I’ve learned is the value of connection and communication. Being a good listener allows me to understand different perspectives and build meaningful relationships, while the ability to articulate my thoughts ensures that I can communicate effectively and purposefully. Together, these skills have helped me grow both personally and professionally.”

What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “I strive to live by the values of authenticity, integrity, adaptability, respect, trust, courage and collaboration. But values only matter if you truly give them value. HPU helped me realize that it’s not enough to simply name them; you have to live them. It takes daily effort and intention to genuinely become the person you want to be and to lead with purpose. Through my experiences at HPU, I learned that the results you see in life are directly connected to the actions you take. Consistently acting with intention and integrity is what leads to real growth.”

Advice for underclassmen: “My advice to underclassmen is to focus on building strong relationships and pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone. Success after graduation isn’t just about what you know — it’s also about who you know and how you grow from your experiences. Take every chance to learn new skills, seek out mentors and embrace challenges, even when the outcome feels uncertain. Stay true to your values, work hard and don’t be afraid to take risks. The confidence and resilience you develop along the way will be your greatest assets as you navigate your career and life after graduation.”
