Here’s a quick glimpse at one of many impressive outcomes HPU graduates achieve.
Name: Alex Connors; Class of 2027
Hometown: Asheboro, North Carolina
Major: Sport Management; minor in Spanish
Internship plans: Alex interned for the FIFA Club World Cup as their Guest Operations Intern in Charlotte, North Carolina. As a Guest Operations Intern, he focused on the well-being and high-class service FIFA delivers to its VIP and special guests attending the matches at Bank of America Stadium. He had the opportunity to converse and guide many high-ranking officials of national clubs, including Real Madrid, Chelsea, Pachuca, Bayern München and Fluminense.
How HPU helped you get there: “HPU helped me by providing courses that catered to helping me become the perfect candidate for a job or internship, such as Human Communication and all of my Sport Management classes. Without these courses, I wouldn’t have been able to apply for FIFA and tell them all the experiences and knowledge I have learned.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “My impactful mentor at HPU is Dr. Lukow, Sport Management Department Chair and Associate Professor of Sport Management, who is also my advisor. She strives for me to keep pushing and create bigger and better opportunities for myself, even as an undergraduate at HPU.”
Most impactful moment at HPU: “My most impactful moment at HPU was definitely meeting Former Dallas Mavericks CEO Cynt Marshall and President of Business Operations with Orlando Magic Charlie Freeman, our professionals in residence. Both are easy to access and offer wonderful advice for communications majors, especially those majoring in Sport Management.”
How you used Career & Professional Development: “I used the Career and Professional Development center for my resume building and video interview assistance. With FIFA, I was required to submit a video and quiz course to assess my skills and position if I were part of the team. I was able to perfect my skills in a video interview using the Career and Professional Development team’s advice.”
Advice for underclassmen: “Networking is essential and gets you these kinds of opportunities. Be sure to make friends with everyone in your workplace and expand your horizons; your next big job could be from the person you spoke with on the elevator!”
