How HPU helped you get there: “High Point University has played a pivotal role in preparing me for my career in finance by providing both a strong academic foundation and numerous experiential opportunities. Through rigorous coursework in finance and international business, involvement in the Floyd T. Craven Investment Club, Accounting Club and leadership roles in Alpha Kappa Psi, I have developed critical analytical, teamwork and leadership skills. Additionally, HPU’s emphasis on career development and networking has given me access to internships and mentorship opportunities that directly align with my professional goals in wealth management.”
How you used Career & Professional Development: “I have utilized High Point University’s Career & Professional Development office extensively to prepare for internships and future career opportunities. During the first week of my freshman year, I met with a Peer Career Advisor to build a strong foundation for my resume and LinkedIn profile. I later met with a Career Advisor who guided me through the application process and provided support that was instrumental in securing my internship, in addition to attending workshops and networking events that enhanced my professional skills and industry connections.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “The most impactful mentor I’ve had at HPU is Emily Long in the Office of Career & Professional Development. She guided me through the process of securing my internship, providing valuable advice on applications and interviews and celebrated my success when I received the offer. Her support and encouragement gave me confidence, practical skills and insight into pursuing a career in wealth management.”
Most impactful moment at HPU: “The most impactful moment at HPU for me was being initiated into the professional business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi. This experience pushed me to grow professionally, take on leadership opportunities and engage more deeply with the business community. It challenged me to develop essential skills for the business world, from networking and teamwork to leadership and professional communication.”

This experience has given me a deeper understanding of the skills, knowledge and dedication required to succeed in the field.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU’s inspiring campus has contributed to my success by fostering an environment that emphasizes both academic excellence and personal growth. These principles will guide me in both my professional career and personal development as I move forward after graduation.”
Advice for underclassmen: “My advice for underclassmen is to take full advantage of the opportunities HPU offers both inside and outside the classroom. Get involved in clubs, leadership roles and experiential learning experiences to build practical skills and professional connections. Take initiative early by meeting with the Career and Professional Development advisors to refine your resume, practice interviews and explore career paths. Seek mentorship from faculty, staff and peers who can provide guidance and support as you navigate your academic and professional journey. Finally, be proactive in pursuing internships, networking opportunities and real-world experiences, as these will give you valuable skills and insights that set you apart after graduation. It is never too early to start applying to internships.”
