Major: Event Management; minor in Strategic Communication
Internship plans: Samantha interned for the NYC Mayor’s Office of Special Projects and Community Events as their Special Projects and Community Events Coordinator this past summer. As an intern at the NYC Mayor’s Office of Special Projects and Community Events, she contributed to the planning and execution of high-profile public events held at Gracie Mansion. How HPU helped you get there: “HPU prepared me for success through hands-on coursework, supportive mentorship and global experiences, such as my Event Management study abroad program in Austria, Germany and Slovakia, which strengthened my adaptability and communication skills. At an admitted student event on Long Island, I connected with an alum who opened the door to an opportunity at the NYC Mayor’s Office, an internship I was fortunate enough to secure through continued follow-up and initiative. HPU’s strong network and emphasis on real-world learning have played a key role in helping me pursue my professional goals.“
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “While I’ve had many incredible professors at HPU, one of the most important mentors in my journey has been Jacob Crawford, my Success Coach. From the beginning, he took the time to understand my goals and consistently encouraged me to pursue opportunities that aligned with my passions. His guidance helped me stay grounded, confident, and motivated through every challenge. I’m truly grateful for the support he’s provided me throughout my time at HPU.”
Most impactful moment at HPU: “I had four most impactful moments at HPU. The first included watching my brother Jack graduate from HPU, a proud and emotional moment for me and my family. Second, getting into Tri Sigma Sorority and forming lifelong friendships. Third, studying abroad in Europe without my family involved stepping outside my comfort zone. Lastly, I found out I secured my summer internship while cheering on HPU at March Madness!”
What has your internship experience been like and how is it preparing you for your future? “My internship with the NYC Mayor’s Office of Special Projects and Community Events has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve gained hands-on experience in event planning, budget tracking and guest relations for high-profile municipal events at places like Gracie Mansion. This internship has deepened my interest in event management, strengthened my communication and organization skills, as well as shown me the real impact of collaborative public service. It’s given me a clearer sense of the career path I want to pursue and has prepared me to enter the workforce with practical skills and a strong sense of purpose.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU’s inspiring environment has played a huge role in my personal and professional growth. Being surrounded by students and faculty who are driven, supportive and goal-oriented constantly motivated me to strive for excellence. From career-focused classrooms to professional development events across campus, HPU fostered an atmosphere that helped me step outside of my comfort zone, whether that was studying abroad, speaking at events, or securing an internship through a networking opportunity. The university’s focus on the outcome isn’t a coincidence; it’s built into the culture.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “HPU helped me develop life skills that extend far beyond the classroom. Through campus involvement, professional development events and leadership opportunities, I’ve strengthened my communication, time management and problem-solving abilities. The emphasis on values like professionalism, service and adaptability has prepared me to confidently navigate both career challenges and everyday life after graduation.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “HPU helped me grow not only academically and professionally, but also spiritually. The campus community encouraged values like gratitude, integrity and faith, which I’ll carry with me for life. Before many important moments, especially interviews, I turned to prayer and asked God for guidance, strength and peace. That connection to my faith, supported by HPU’s value-driven environment, gave me confidence and clarity in pursuing my goals.”
Advice for underclassmen: “My advice to underclassmen is to take full advantage of every opportunity HPU offers, academically, professionally and personally. Build strong relationships with your professors, network with alumni, get involved on campus and never be afraid to ask questions or seek guidance. Internships, study abroad programs and real-world experiences will help you discover your passions and build confidence. Most importantly, trust your journey, stay curious and don’t underestimate the power of prayer and hard work.”
