How HPU helped you get there:High Point University really shaped who I am today. What stood out the most was how quickly I was able to get hands-on experience. From directing and producing live broadcasts with HPU Sports Link on ESPN+ to helping launch new projects like Panther Pregame, I was trusted with real responsibility early on. Those moments taught me how to remain calm under pressure, work effectively as part of a team, and think creatively in solving problems. Beyond the technical side, HPU gave me a sense of confidence and belonging. Serving as President of the NSMA chapter pushed me to be a leader, but also reminded me how important it is to build genuine connections with people. The professors and mentors I worked with didn’t just teach me skills—they believed in me, and that belief made all the difference. Looking back, I can see how every opportunity at HPU prepared me not only for my career in sports broadcasting, but also for the kind of future I want to build. It gave me the tools, mindset and resilience to chase my goals with purpose.

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Two of my most impactful mentors at HPU were Professor Ken Medlin, Professor of the Practice of Journalism, and Professor Joe Michaels, Professor of the Practice of Media Production. Professor Medlin gave me the opportunity to produce the first live Panther Pregame from the March Madness site, which was a defining moment in my college career. Professor Michaels inspired my passion for directing, pushing me to grow as a leader and storyteller in live production. Both helped shape the path I’m on today.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “My most impactful moment at HPU was producing the first live Panther Pregame from the NCAA March Madness site. Being trusted with that responsibility showed me how far I had come, from learning the basics of production to leading a live show on one of the biggest stages in college sports. It was the moment I truly realized that the skills and confidence I had gained at HPU could carry me into a professional career.”

How you used Career & Professional Development: “I leaned on the Office of Career & Professional Development as a guide for navigating my career path. They helped me polish my resume, prepare for interviews and make valuable connections in the sports media industry. Having that support system gave me the confidence to pursue opportunities such as internships, freelance work and eventually my role at NESN.”

How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU’s campus has always felt like an environment built to inspire growth. Being surrounded by state-of-the-art facilities, professional-level studios and a community of people striving for excellence motivated me to hold myself to a higher standard every day. The energy on campus pushed me to take advantage of opportunities I might not have sought out otherwise, like producing Panther Pregame at March Madness or directing live broadcasts on ESPN+. That environment instilled in me the confidence and drive to succeed long after graduation.”

What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “High Point University helped me develop life skills that go far beyond the classroom. Through Sports Link broadcasts on ESPN+ and my leadership with the NSMA chapter, I learned how to adapt under pressure, manage my time effectively and work with a team toward a common goal. The challenges taught me resilience and problem-solving, while the opportunities to connect with professors, peers and industry professionals strengthened my ability to build meaningful relationships. All of these experiences gave me a foundation for long-term success, both in my career and in life.”

What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “HPU’s campus taught me the value of hard work, leadership and resilience, while also reminding me of the importance of kindness and building genuine relationships. These are virtues I’ll carry with me into every stage of life after graduation.”

Advice for underclassmen: “After graduation, my focus has been on continuing to grow by meeting new people and building meaningful connections. HPU taught me the value of surrounding myself with different perspectives and learning from every interaction. That mindset has helped me step into the next chapter of my life with openness, curiosity and the confidence to keep expanding my network and myself.”
