How HPU helped you get there: “High Point University has prepared me for a strong start in my finance career by providing both a well-rounded education and meaningful experiential opportunities. Serving as President of the NABA High Point Chapter, and participating in organizations such as the Floyd T. Craven Investment Club, Alpha Kappa Psi and Business Professionals of America, I have built skills in leadership, collaboration, relationship-building and professional development. HPU’s unmatched focus on networking, mentoring and career readiness has further strengthened my ability to excel in both academic and professional settings.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “My most impactful mentor has been Dr. Doug Hall from the Office of Career & Professional Development. Since my freshman year, he has consistently guided me, whether by encouraging me to take on leadership roles within clubs or helping me navigate career and internship opportunities. He has been a constant supporter behind the scenes, and I am truly grateful for his mentorship.”
Most impactful moment at HPU: “One of the most impactful moments of my time at HPU was representing the university at the NABA National Convention in June 2024. I participated in workshops, networked with industry leaders and interviewed with several firms—ultimately leaving the conference with five internship offers for summer 2025. This experience not only allowed me to showcase the life skills I developed during my first two years at HPU but also helped me identify areas for growth so I can continue taking full advantage of HPU’s professional development opportunities.”
How you used Career & Professional Development: “The Office of Career & Professional Development has been a consistent source of guidance and support since my freshman year. Early on, I was introduced to Robert Tillman, who is now with the Center for Community Engagement, who helped me refine my résumé and encouraged me to get involved in organizations that fostered my professional growth. Over the years, I have continued meeting with career advisors who prepared me for interviews, job fairs, networking conferences and more. In addition, programs such as HPU in the City and the HPU Community Investor Program have opened valuable doors for both myself and fellow members of the clubs and organizations I am involved in.”
What has your internship experience been like and how is it preparing you for your future? “My internship experience was amazing, knowing that I was able to design and implement an Investment Banking Equities Power BI dashboard using multiple investment tools like LSEG and Alteryx. This allowed me to leave a lasting impact and help boost reporting efficiency by 75% and save 184 hours annually. From all the special speakers to the focus on weekly training and development sessions, to ensure we had a wholesome experience. This reinforced to me the value of always being curious and pushing yourself to learn more, as the hard work does not go unnoticed.”
Advice for underclassmen: “My advice to underclassmen is to always take advantage of all the opportunities HPU provides. We are lucky to have programs like HPU in the city, life skills speaker series, fine dining learning labs and so many more networking opportunities, like working the furniture market and the Augusta National Golf Tournament. These experiences will shape and mold you in ways you may not even notice at first. Your four years at HPU are your chance to take risks and step out of your comfort zone. If you do so, you will definitely grow from it.”
