Post-graduation plans: Lauren will start her career as a News Producer for WITN-TV in Greenville, North Carolina. As a News Producer, she will use her creativity and judgment to deliver current events to the Eastern Carolina community via newscast. To build these newscasts, Lauren will work with broadcast and digital platforms to organize a compelling narrative.
How HPU helped you get there: “HPU gave me access to mentors and professionals in the industry that helped me get my foot in the door. HPU also prepared me for the workforce and gave me the best foundation to prove my worth to people and to show that I’m ready for anything thrown at me. HPU has done an amazing job of preparing me as a young professional.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Dr. Bobby Hayes, Chair and Professor of the Practice of Journalism, has been my most impactful mentor at HPU. He’s been an amazing advisor and he’s always encouraged me in anything I’ve come to him with. I’ve also had the pleasure of going on Executive trips for the Society of Professional Journalists with him and I’ve gotten to bond with him outside of the classroom. Dr. Hayes has made me feel empowered in my career and like I have what it takes to succeed.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “I learned how to act in a professional setting, how to utilize my connections, how to be patient and how to embrace constant change.”
Advice for underclassmen: “Be as involved as you possibly can be. I wish I had joined more clubs and organizations with my time on campus. Junior and senior year is when I was the most active within my campus communities, and they’ve been my best two years so far.”
