Name: Kynley Simerson, Class of 2026

Hometown: Lexington, North Carolina

Major: Accounting, minor in Finance

Post-graduation plans: Kynley will intern this summer with Chick-fil-A as a Restaurant Accountant in Atlanta, Georgia. The primary purpose of her role is to provide routine regional accounting support through various tactical assignments. Kynley’s key responsibilities include managing Chick-fil-A restaurant assignments, conducting month-end reviews, reconciling general ledger accounts, and auditing revenue and expenses to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.

How HPU helped you get there: “During my trip to Atlanta over fall break with HPU in the City, I was able to network with the talent acquisition staff at Chick-fil-A and then applied when their internship opportunities opened the following week. “

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Dr. Jo Lacy, assistant professor of accounting, and I have developed a relationship that extends beyond the classroom. Through this connection, I have come to know her on a more personal level and have shared many meaningful experiences with her. She is someone I deeply respect and look up to, and her opinion is one that I highly value.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “My most impactful moment at HPU has been having the opportunity to be a student ambassador. I have enjoyed sharing my experience and showing HPU to prospective students. My tour impacted my college decision, so I love being able to give back and hopefully do the same.“

How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU has prepared me for this opportunity through interviews, professionalism and through my accounting classes. I had to take an accounting test to show I was qualified for this position, which my classes prepared me for. I also had four interviews during this process, so having professional experience and practice interviewing helped me.”

How did the Office of Career & Professional Development contribute to your success? “The experience with HPU in the City helped me connect with the talent acquisition team at Chick-fil-A in person before applying for the program. I was also able to see the culture and environment at the support center, which helped me make my final decision when looking at all internship offers.”
