Post-graduation plans: Avery will be joining the Real Whirled Sales Development Program for Whirlpool Corporation in Benton Harbor, Michigan, upon graduation. The program is a hands-on role where he will relocate to manage his own sales territory and represent Whirlpool’s full brand portfolio. Avery will work directly with major retail partners to build relationships, drive sales and improve how products are presented in stores and online, while gaining experience in sales strategy.
How HPU helped you get there: “I believe HPU has helped me grow through the mentorship and guidance I’ve received from faculty, as well as the networking opportunities available on campus. These experiences have helped my confidence, communication and overall professional skills, which have played a major role in my development.”
How you used Career & Professional Development: “I used the Office of Career and Professional Development for guidance as I worked to figure out my career path, especially when applying for internships and new opportunities. They helped me refine my resume, explore different career options and understand what companies were looking for in college students. Their support made it easier for me to feel confident, identify my strengths and stay on track with my goals.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “My most impactful mentor at HPU is Andy Brehm, Director of Corporate Relations. He has taken the time to talk with me about my career goals, life decisions and almost everything in between. His guidance and honesty have played a big role in helping me grow and feel more confident about the direction I’m heading. He’s someone I know I can always go to for real advice and genuine support.”
Most impactful moment at HPU: “My most impactful moment at HPU was joining Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Becoming a part of this brotherhood gave me a strong support system and pushed me to grow as a leader both on campus and in my community.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU’s professional environment motivated me to hold myself to a high standard and pursue excellence in every opportunity. Being surrounded by driven peers, high-achieving mentors and real-world learning spaces pushed me to consistently aim higher and prepare for life after graduation.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “HPU helped me improve my communication and leadership skills while also learning how to handle projects effectively. I gained a better sense of how to adapt, stay organized and work through challenges with a solutions-first mindset.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “HPU instilled values of service, professionalism, integrity and personal accountability. Through campus leadership roles and community involvement, I learned how to collaborate with various people across different walks of life and maintain high standards in both my character and work ethic.”
