Most impactful mentor at HPU: “I have been fortunate to have many mentors within the HPU community, including professors, faculty and the Office of Career & Professional Development. Each has guided me in different decisions and considerations, and I truly believe it takes a village to help build a person toward success. While it’s hard to pinpoint just one individual, I am grateful for the collective support and encouragement I’ve received from everyone along the way.”
Most impactful moment at HPU: “One of my most meaningful experiences at HPU was having the opportunity to speak to the freshman Business Fellows and inspire them on how to pursue internships and secure jobs. I shared advice on using available resources, building a strong résumé and reflecting on what they want others to say about them when they leave the room. I also emphasized the importance of taking advantage of opportunities from a student perspective and what it truly means to be a Business Fellow. This experience was inspiring for me as well, because being selected to speak showed that hard work pays off and highlighted the value of the connections I’ve built. It also allowed me to become a resource for others to lean on for advice and career guidance as they grow into better professionals.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “It’s important to take time to understand your values and what matters most to you and your career so that you can confidently ask the right questions in an interview. This reflection also helps you identify the type of leader you do and don’t want to become, while continuing to reevaluate and grow in your self-awareness. Having a mentor can be especially valuable in this process, providing guidance, accountability and support as you develop both personally and professionally.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “I’ve learned that excellence is not just a destination — it’s a character and an attitude. To live an excellent life, you have to consistently produce excellence, regardless of what others may define as their standard. What truly matters is holding yourself to your own standard of excellence and integrity, and continuing to uphold it no matter the situation.”
Advice for underclassmen: “Never focus too much on what’s around you — look ahead, because you are the one building what’s in front of you, even if you can’t change everything around you. It’s all about perspective and what you choose to make of it. Use your time at HPU to explore, learn and discover the professional and business world while building meaningful connections. Remember, your future is what you create; you are not stuck behind, but in transition — and transition takes time. Take each opportunity as a stepping stone that brings you closer to where you want to go.”
