How HPU helped you get there: “High Point University connected me to this role as I got the job through HPU’s Selling Club.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Dr. David Bergen, professor of leadership and the executive director of Siegfried Leadership Fellows, was the most impactful person I met at HPU. He was not only the best teacher but gave me the best advice and pointed me in the best direction every time.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “My most impactful moment at HPU wasn’t a single event — it was the turning point that came after one of my lowest. During my freshman year, I struggled academically. I came in with big goals, but the transition from high school to college hit harder than I expected. I was overwhelmed, underprepared and my grades reflected that. I felt like I was falling behind while everyone else was thriving. But instead of giving up, I made a decision — to stop avoiding the struggle and start learning from it. I got real with myself about my habits, my mindset and my priorities. I started asking for help by meeting with professors, using the academic services HPU offers and leaning on my support system around me. I also learned how to manage my time, set realistic goals and stay disciplined — not just motivated. That shift in mindset changed everything. My grades steadily improved but more importantly, I proved to myself that failure wasn’t final — it was feedback. That experience taught me resilience, self-awareness and grit, and it’s become one of the biggest reasons I feel ready to face challenges after graduation.”

How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU’s inspiring environment has played a major role in my success by surrounding me with a culture that constantly reinforces growth, excellence and purpose. The campus itself — from the professional dress expectations to the motivational messaging across campus — sets a tone that encourages students to think seriously about their future from day one.”

What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “Discipline, integrity, resilience and a growth mindset.

What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “HPU’s campus helped me develop a strong foundation of values and virtues that go beyond academics. One of the biggest was a deep sense of personal responsibility — the culture here really pushes you to take ownership of your time, your goals and how you show up in the world. I also grew in servant leadership where there’s a strong emphasis on using your skills to make a difference in the lives of others, not just your own.”

Advice for underclassmen: “Build your network, don’t be shy reaching out for help or advice. People have been in your position at one point.”
