How HPU helped you get there: “My internship has been a hands-on learning experience where I’ve been able to apply classroom knowledge to real business situations. It’s challenged me to think critically, sharpen my technical skills and strengthen my ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment. Beyond the technical side, it’s also given me exposure to teamwork, problem-solving and decision-making at a professional level.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “The most impactful mentor I’ve had at HPU is Dr. Daniel Hall, dean of the Earl N. Phillips School of Business. He’s been a consistent source of guidance and encouragement, always willing to invest his time to help me grow personally and professionally. Dean Hall doesn’t just give advice—he challenges me to think bigger, approach problems with confidence and push myself beyond my comfort zone. What makes him so impactful is his ability to balance wisdom with genuine care. He’s helped me see opportunities I might have overlooked and given me the confidence to pursue goals I once thought were out of reach. His mentorship has been a major influence on my development and will continue to shape how I approach my career and leadership journey after graduation. “
Most impactful moment at HPU: “My most impactful moment at HPU was being selected to serve on the Student Advisory Board for the School of Business. That opportunity was impactful because it allowed me to represent my peers, collaborate directly with faculty leadership and contribute ideas that help improve the student experience. It pushed me to grow as a leader, sharpen my communication skills and step into a position of responsibility where my voice carried weight. That experience gave me the confidence to know that I can influence change, work effectively with professionals and take ownership of opportunities that will prepare me for my career after graduation.”
Did the Office of Career & Professional Development contribute to your success? If so, how? “Yes, I’ve used the Office of Career & Professional Development as a resource to sharpen my professional skills and prepare for future opportunities. I’ve worked with them to refine my résumé, practice for interviews and get guidance on how to present myself effectively to employers.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU’s inspiring environment has played a huge role in my success. Being surrounded by a campus that’s designed to motivate you, with faculty who genuinely invest in students, state-of-the-art resources and peers who are equally ambitious, creates a culture where you feel driven to do your best. That environment has pushed me to raise my standards, stay disciplined and pursue opportunities that align with my long-term goals. It’s not just about what happens in the classroom, it’s the daily inspiration you get from being in a place that’s built to prepare you for both personal growth and professional success.”
What has your internship experience been like and how has it prepared you for your future? “My internship experience has been both challenging and rewarding. It gave me the chance to apply what I’ve learned in the classroom to real-world situations, sharpen my technical skills and gain a deeper understanding of how businesses operate day-to-day. I was able to contribute to meaningful projects while also learning how to adapt quickly, solve problems and collaborate with a professional team. This experience is preparing me for the future by giving me confidence and clarity. I now have a stronger sense of direction in my career path, and I’m leaving with the practical skills, professional mindset and connections that will help me succeed long after graduation.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “High Point University has prepared me by giving me more than just academics, it’s provided an environment where leadership, innovation and real-world application are at the center of everything. The emphasis on experiential learning, mentorship from professors and access to professional opportunities has helped me turn knowledge into action. HPU has also pushed me to set ambitious goals and given me the confidence and skills to pursue them. The culture here inspires you to think bigger, hold yourself to a higher standard and approach challenges as opportunities. That mindset is something I’ll carry forward into every step of my career.“
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “HPU’s campus has helped me develop values and virtues that go far beyond academics. I’ve learned the importance of resilience, discipline and responsibility—qualities that come from being held to a high standard both in and out of the classroom. The culture of service and leadership has also shaped me into someone who sees success not just as personal achievement, but as an opportunity to create impact for others. Most importantly, I’ve developed confidence, adaptability and a growth mindset. These are values I’ll carry with me after graduation as I face new challenges, pursue ambitious goals and continue striving to make a difference in whatever environment I step into.”
Advice for underclassmen: “My advice to underclassmen is to take full advantage of the opportunities HPU offers beyond the classroom. Get involved, build relationships with professors and mentors, and don’t be afraid to step into leadership roles or experiences that push you out of your comfort zone. Those are the things that prepare you for life after graduation. I’d also say focus on networking early, internships, the Office of Career & Professional Development and alumni connections that can open doors you didn’t even know existed. Finally, be intentional with your time here. The habits, values and relationships you build now will set the foundation for your success after graduation.”
