HIGH POINT, N.C., Feb. 26, 2026 – High Point University faculty, staff and students gave a record $300,000 to the United Way of Greater High Point during HPU’s 2025 fundraising campaign, continuing their strong commitment to helping community members in need.
HPU President Nido Qubein presented a check for $300,000 to the United Way of Greater High Point during the Feb. 7 men’s basketball game in the Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena and Conference Center. Joe Barnes, vice president of resource development for United Way of Greater High Point, and Chris Bryan, who serves as the nonprofit’s campaign chair, joined Qubein on the court for the special presentation during HPU’s Spring Family Weekend.
HPU’s gift surpasses last year’s donation of $285,000 to the United Way of Greater High Point and marks an increase of 971% to the nonprofit since 2005.
“We are incredibly grateful for High Point University’s continued leadership and generosity in support of our community,” said Jane Liebscher, president of United Way of Greater High Point. “Their $300,000 contribution to United Way of Greater High Point through the 2025 campaign reflects a growing commitment to addressing our community’s most pressing needs. This support allows us to invest more deeply in critical areas — from food security and safe housing to education, health and financial stability — ensuring that individuals and families have the resources they need to not only get by but to truly thrive. High Point University’s partnership exemplifies what it means to lead with purpose, and we are deeply thankful for their unwavering commitment to creating lasting, meaningful impact.”

HPU has contributed more than $4 million to annual United Way campaigns since Dr. Qubein became the university’s president in 2005.
“It is incredible to see HPU’s faculty, staff and students step up every year and continue to support the United Way,” Qubein said. “I am proud that the HPU family always comes together to stand tall with our city and support the United Way and their partner agencies.”
HPU’s donation of $300,000 to the United Way of Greater High Point includes a $20,000 gift from the university’s Student Government Association and an additional $5,000 from its Graduate Student Government Association.
“It feels really good that we’re able to donate that $20,000 to other people in the community for work that can get done in the community,” said SGA President Quadir Phillip, a senior majoring in marketing and sales from Camden, Delaware. “We are very fortunate here on our campus to get a lot of opportunities to send our students to conferences and travel internationally and domestically but being able to reach somebody and reach a home that we wouldn’t typically be able to do on campus means a lot to us.”
