How HPU helped you get there: “The professors at HPU help me grow professionally and personally, allowing me to build character and confidence.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “It’s hard to pick one mentor since so many of my professors have been impactful mentors at HPU. Shannon Thomae, senior learning excellence specialist, led me in Summer Advantage before I even started at HPU. She helped me become a tutor for the university and she is a great mentor to me. David Kame, professor of the practice of management, has been my professor for two semesters and has taught me so much. James Chenier, professor of the practice of sales, has led me and helped me in sales, which is my big reason why I applied to TQL for its LAE position. Last but not least, Dr. Craig Curty, director of peer assisted learning services (P.A.L.S.), is my manager in the P.A.L.S. program for tutors. He’s an awesome mentor who has taught me a lot about helping others with study skills.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “My most impactful moment at HPU is my first time coming on campus for a tour of the university, having my name on a parking spot and being driven around in the golf cart by our tour guide.”

How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU’s inspiring campus created an environment that motivated me to stay engaged, focused and driven toward my goals. Being around like-minded peers and professors builds learning environments for me to develop professionally and personally on a higher level. “

How did the Office of Career and Professional Development contribute to your success? “The Office of Career and Professional Development helped polish my resume. In particular, Katie Davidson worked to help me to make it look good for future careers. I appreciated it so much.”

What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “HPU helped me develop life skills like time management, communication and critical thinking for a fast-paced workspace like TQL. HPU helped me by emphasizing professionalism and resilience.”

What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “HPU helped me develop integrity, accountability and respect for others through its emphasis on ethical leadership and community engagement. The close-knit community on campus helps with the smaller class sizes because there’s always a familiar face in the classroom. “

Advice for underclassmen: “Build strong connections, don’t be afraid to go outside of your comfort zone and meet new people. Network with anyone and everyone. Pay attention in class and learn you’re only in college once! Develop good habits and do it for yourself because nobody else is going to do it for you. Most importantly, have fun!”
