High Point University’s Law School Earns Accreditation Milestone

HIGH POINT, N.C., March 5, 2026 – High Point University’s Kenneth F. Kahn School of Law has earned provisional approval from the American Bar Association (ABA), marking another major milestone in its development as one of the nation’s newest law schools.

Law schools that are provisionally approved by the ABA’s Council of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar are entitled to all the rights of a fully approved law school. Similarly, graduates of provisionally approved law schools are entitled to the same recognition as graduates of fully approved law schools, including the ability to take the bar exam to obtain a license to practice law.

The Kenneth F. Kahn School of Law received provisional approval after it showed it has met substantial compliance with ABA standards. The school can earn full accreditation following further evaluation by the association’s council on legal education.

“We are grateful to the American Bar Association for recognizing the work that our faculty and staff have invested in growing the Kenneth F. Kahn School of Law into one of the nation’s finest law schools,” HPU President Nido Qubein said. “The law school is already teaching future attorneys what it means to be a person of service and how to be a true leader in the community.”

This is the latest milestone for the law school since it welcomed its inaugural class of 72 students in Fall 2024. It has been at full capacity since it opened, and its second cohort of 75 students started taking classes in August.

In September, HPU held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the official opening of a new three-story, 77,500-square-foot building that serves as the permanent home for the Kenneth F. Kahn School of Law. The state-of-the-art facility features a 120-seat courtroom and two smaller courtrooms to help students practice presenting cases in front of a judge and jury. It also has a 13,000-square-foot law library with study space for students.

HPU also opened the Bergmann & Moore Veterans Law Clinic this fall. Second-year law students staff the pro bono law clinic under the supervision of Ashley Castillo, the clinic’s director and supervising attorney. Students help injured veterans receive disability compensation benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs while also learning the complex issues that pertain to veterans law.

“Accreditation is the hallmark of quality and high standards for legal education and admission to the bar,” said Mark Martin, founding dean of the Kenneth F. Kahn School of Law and former chief justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court. “Graduates of High Point Law will now be entitled to the same recognition as graduates of fully approved law schools. Many thanks to every internal and external stakeholder who assisted and supported this effort.”

The law school is the latest academic school at HPU to receive good news regarding accreditation over the past year. The Workman School of Dental Medicine earned its initial accreditation from the Commission on Dental Accreditation to start a one-year, full-time residency program in general dentistry. The Webb School of Engineering was also notified by ABET, the premier accreditation agency for engineering, computing and technology programs, that it has achieved accreditation for its Bachelor of Science degree programs in computer science, computer engineering and electrical engineering.
