Name: Isabel Boyles, Class of 2026

Hometown: Williamsport, Pennsylvania

Major: Healthcare Management and Psychology

Post-graduation plans: After graduation in May, Isabel will be pursuing her Juris Doctor degree at High Point University’s Kenneth F. Kahn School of Law.

How HPU helped you get there: “High Point University has helped me get where I am today by giving me the freedom to explore and grow through its liberal arts education. I did not initially realize how valuable that flexibility would be, but it ultimately shaped my academic and professional path. As someone who changed majors several times, I was able to discover what truly aligned with my strengths and long-term goals without feeling limited. Beyond coursework, the mentorship I received along the way played a critical role in my preparation for law school. Faculty members encouraged me to think critically, communicate confidently and approach challenges with resilience. Because of that support and academic freedom, I feel prepared not just for law school, but for the broader goals I hope to achieve in my career.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “My most impactful mentor at HPU has been Dr. Scott Jobe, assistant professor and director of the Healthcare Management Program. I had him for several healthcare management courses, but his impact went far beyond the classroom. He was always willing to talk about anything — academics, career decisions or life in general. His friendly presence, corny jokes and silly socks could always make me smile, even on stressful days. He was also the first person I turned to when I needed guidance deciding which law school to attend. His support and reassurance meant more to me than he probably realizes. I will truly miss stopping by his office.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “Standing at the Cliffs of Dover during my healthcare Maymester was the most impactful moment of my time at HPU. In that moment, I felt completely at peace and genuinely happy. It was a reminder that the long nights, the academic challenges and the personal growth had all led me somewhere meaningful. That experience made me realize how far I had come and how capable I truly am. It was a quiet but powerful confirmation that I was exactly where I was meant to be.”

How have you used the Office of Career & Professional Development: “During my time at HPU, I utilized the Office of Career & Professional Development for guidance on refining my resume and strengthening my professional presentation. Their feedback helped me feel more confident in how I represented my experiences and accomplishments. I also had the opportunity to ring the “Extraordinary Bell” after being accepted into law school, which was a meaningful full-circle moment. It symbolized not only the outcome, but the preparation and support that helped me get there.”

How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to my success because it created a space where I genuinely felt happy and supported. Being on a campus that prioritizes positivity, encouragement and student growth made me want to show up as my best self. When you’re in an atmosphere that feels uplifting, it becomes easier to stay motivated and confident in your goals. For me, happiness wasn’t separate from success — it fueled it. Feeling like I belonged and was surrounded by people who believed in me gave me the confidence to pursue opportunities, take on challenges and push myself academically. HPU’s environment didn’t just prepare me professionally; it helped me thrive personally.”

What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “During my time at HPU, I have significantly refined the life skills that will support my long-term success. My communication abilities and confidence in public speaking have grown tremendously, along with my professional skills in resume building and networking. As a student in the Honors Program, I further developed analytical reasoning, team management and resilience through collaborative projects and research-based work. Those experiences challenged me to think critically and lead effectively under pressure. Most importantly, my work with the Office of Residence Life strengthened my understanding of diversity and inclusion, teaching me how to engage thoughtfully with individuals from different backgrounds and perspectives. Alongside these skills, HPU instilled in me a deep sense of gratitude — an appreciation for opportunity, mentorship and growth that I will carry with me into law school and beyond.”

What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “HPU helped me grow in both confidence and professionalism. During my time on campus, I learned how to advocate for myself, communicate effectively and step into leadership roles in both academic and professional settings. The environment encouraged me to hold myself to high standards while also emphasizing the importance of integrity, kindness and respect for others. I am leaving HPU not just with knowledge, but with resilience, discipline and a strong sense of belonging — qualities that will guide me through law school and throughout my career.”

Advice for underclassmen: “My advice to underclassmen is to listen to your heart and not force anything — whether that be friendships, leadership roles or even your major. Growth takes time, and it’s okay if your path doesn’t look perfectly planned from the beginning. Trust that what is meant for you will align as long as you continue putting in effort and staying open to new opportunities. Success after graduation comes from authenticity, resilience and being willing to pivot when necessary. When you focus on becoming the best version of yourself rather than trying to fit into what you think you “should” be doing, the right opportunities will follow.”
