Here’s a quick glimpse at one of many impressive outcomes HPU graduates achieve.
Name: Reagan Badgett, Class of 2026
Hometown: Ashland, Virginia
Major: Exercise Science, minor in Psychology
Internship plans: After graduation in May, Reagan will be pursuing her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.
How HPU helped you get there: “HPU really helped me turn my interests into a clear path for the future. Through my exercise science classes and experiences, I was able to build a strong foundation for pursuing physical therapy. At the same time, being involved on campus reminded me why I’m passionate about helping people in the first place.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “One of the most impactful mentors I had at HPU was Dr. Matthew Kuennen, assistant professor in HPU’s Department of Health and Human Performance. During one of the most difficult challenges I faced, he really went out of his way to support me and made sure I knew his door was always open. He became one of my biggest cheerleaders and constantly encouraged me to keep pushing forward. He truly embodies what HPU is about and made me feel like I wasn’t just another number in the class.“
Most impactful moment at HPU: “One of the most impactful moments I had at HPU was a trip to Colorado with the Health Science Fellows. It gave me the opportunity to explore a new area and see facilities like the Olympic Training Facility that I normally wouldn’t have had access to otherwise. The experience also helped me build connections and network with professionals, while getting to know the faculty in the program better outside of the classroom. It was a really meaningful experience that helped me grow both personally and professionally.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU’s environment really motivates you to want to do your best. Being surrounded by people who are driven and supportive pushes you to work harder and take advantage of the opportunities around you. The technology and pristine facilities also give students access to some of the best resources to learn and grow. On top of that, the campus is so beautiful and well-kept that it creates a positive atmosphere that honestly makes you feel more motivated and excited to show up and put in the work every day.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “HPU really pushed me to step outside my comfort zone and connect with people I might not have otherwise met. Through different classes, organizations and experiences, I learned how important building genuine relationships and networking can be.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “HPU’s campus really reinforced the importance of values like faith, family and service. Being in an environment that encourages you to push yourself and aim higher helped me develop a mindset of always striving to reach my full potential. I’ll definitely carry that with me after graduation, along with the importance of staying grounded in what matters most and using your opportunities to make a positive impact.”
Advice for underclassmen: “My advice would be to study hard, but also make sure you enjoy the experience along the way. Set goals early so you have something to work toward, but stay open to new opportunities that might come your way. HPU has so many resources and people who genuinely want to help you succeed, so don’t be afraid to use them and ask for guidance when you need it.”
