Post-graduation plans: Abbie is launching her nursing career at Cone Health as their New Graduate Emergency RN in Greensboro, North Carolina. In this position, she will provide rapid, patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing critical thinking and quick decision-making. Abbie will be committed to advocating for her patients, collaborating with the healthcare team, as well as continually growing her skills to deliver safe, compassionate care in high-acuity situations.

How HPU helped you get there: “The Teresa B. Caine School of Nursing provided me with a strong foundation in both the knowledge and clinical skills necessary to succeed as a nurse, while also emphasizing compassion, professionalism and patient-centered care. Through hands-on clinical experiences, supportive faculty and opportunities to grow in confidence and critical thinking, HPU prepared me to step into my role as an Emergency Department RN and continue developing in my nursing career.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Professor Rebecca Gurley, Assistant Professor in Teresa B. Caine School of Nursing, is my most impactful mentor at HPU.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “One of the most impactful moments at High Point University was during my clinical experiences, when I was able to apply everything I had learned in the classroom to real patient care and truly see the difference I could make. That moment gave me confidence in my abilities, reinforced my passion for nursing and reminded me why I chose this path.”

Advice for underclassmen: “Take advantage of every opportunity to learn—whether it’s in the classroom, simulation lab, or clinicals—because it all prepares you more than you realize. Stay organized, ask questions, lean on your support system and trust yourself. Even on the hard days, remember why you started and know that you are capable of becoming an amazing nurse.”
