Here’s a quick glimpse at one of many impressive outcomes HPU graduates achieve.
Name: Lorisa Klinger, Class of 2026
Hometown: Dallas, Pennsylvania
Major: Finance
Post-graduation plans: Lorisa will be starting her career as a Regional & Multiline Treaty Underwriting Trainee at Sompo in New York, New York. She will support the evaluation of reinsurance treaty submissions across multiple lines of business. Through this role, Lorisa will develop core underwriting, analytical and client-facing skills within the reinsurance industry.
How HPU helped you get there: “High Point University played a pivotal role in preparing me for both my career and long-term goals. Through the LIFT Fellowship program, I was connected to Sompo via the SWIM program (Sompo Women in Insurance Management), which ultimately led to my full-time opportunity. Beyond that connection, HPU helped me strengthen my professional skill set, build confidence, and develop the leadership and communication abilities that I will carry with me into my career in reinsurance.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “High Point University’s inspiring environment played a major role in my success by emphasizing the development of real-world life skills. Opportunities like having lunch with CEOs, participating in fine dining experiences, learning from genuinely caring mentors, and being surrounded by a beautiful, professional campus all helped me become comfortable in professional settings. These experiences allowed me to build confidence and learn how to carry myself in the real world, ensuring I feel prepared as I begin my career.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “High Point University helped me develop the life skills that are essential for long-term success, especially professionalism and a strong growth mindset. Through my experiences in the classroom, leadership roles, and programs like LIFT, I learned how to communicate effectively, present myself with confidence, and adapt to new challenges. HPU also taught me the importance of accountability, time management and being proactive in seeking out opportunities. These skills have prepared me to navigate the professional world with confidence and continue growing throughout my career.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “High Point University strengthened the values I already held of prioritizing God, Family, and Country by showing me how to actively incorporate them into my daily life. It reinforced how to lead with those principles in both my personal decisions and professional goals. The campus also deepened my growth mindset, emphasizing that consistently learning, staying disciplined, and bringing your best each day is what drives meaningful progress. These values have been refined during my time at HPU and will continue to guide me moving forward.”
Most impactful moment at HPU: “My time with the Strickland LIFT Fellowship Program has been the most impactful experience at High Point University. Without LIFT, I would not have built my connection with Sompo from the start. The mentorship I received through LIFT, along with my experience at Sompo, helped me discover my interest in becoming an underwriter. That experience gave me clarity on what I am passionate about, and without it, I likely would not have found my career path as early or as confidently as I did.”
Advice for underclassmen: “Take advantage of opportunities early and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Build relationships with mentors and professionals, and get involved in leadership roles that align with what you’re passionate about. Focus on strong life skills like communication and professionalism. Identify your values and stay true to them. They will never lead you astray, and you can trust that the work you put in now will pay off.”
