Zawyer Sports & Entertainment oversees both the Greensboro Gargoyles and Groove Greensboro.

“High Point University prepared me for entering the workforce from the very first day I stepped onto campus. Through countless mentors who guided me along the way and the support of the Career and Professional Development Office, I was truly set up for success. The life skills I developed throughout my four years at HPU helped me secure numerous internships and ultimately land my first full-time job offer right out of college. I am incredibly grateful for all that HPU has done for me.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success?
“High Point University ensured that I would never be too intimidated to step into the corporate world. HPU provides students with countless mentors and access to Innovators in Residence who help guide us by sharing their experiences in their respective fields. The career fairs that HPU organizes also helped me become confident in networking and speaking with professionals. Lastly, the university equipped me with valuable interview tips and techniques that prepared me to succeed professionally.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation?
“When I first arrived on the campus of High Point University and saw the words ‘God, Family, Country,’ I knew those values would stay with me forever. The principles that the university upholds are the same values my family instilled in me from a young age, which is why HPU has always felt like home. These three words will continue to serve as the foundation for how I carry myself, not only in the workplace but in my everyday life as well.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU:
“Dr. Nido Qubein, president of High Point University, has been the most impactful mentor during my time at High Point University. Even as the university president, he has always made an effort to stop, say hello, and have a genuine conversation with me every time I have seen him on campus. He consistently asks how I am doing, what my goals are, and what I hope to accomplish in the future. What stands out most is that he truly cares about my success, not only during my time at HPU but also in my life and career after graduation.
His leadership and personal encouragement have inspired me to be more confident, ambitious, and driven in pursuing my goals. Having someone of his stature take the time to invest in students on such a personal level speaks volumes about the culture at HPU. It is one of the many reasons why I have always felt supported, valued, and motivated to succeed.”
Most impactful moment at HPU:
“Being a University Ambassador for three out of my four years at High Point University was one of the most meaningful parts of my college experience. There was a moment after giving a campus tour when a student told me he genuinely appreciated me taking the time to guide him and share my experience. He said that my enthusiasm for HPU and the way I spoke about the university was a major reason he decided to commit. That moment stood out to me because it showed the real impact of simply being authentic and passionate about something I believe in. It made me realize that representing HPU was not just about giving tours, but about shaping someone’s first impression of a place that could become their home. It also reinforced my confidence in communication, leadership, and the value of sharing my story with others in a meaningful way.”
Advice for underclassmen:
“Take initiative and be confident when applying to jobs and internships! Also, too much experience is never a thing – the more you have is always better!”
