How HPU helped you get there:

“HPU helped me get to where I am now by providing valuable guidance on resume writing, cover letter writing, and where to find positions that are real and align with my interests and networking.”

What has your internship experience been like?:

“I really enjoyed my internship program. I learned a lot about my field and got to work on projects that differed from previous internship experiences. This allowed me to further expand my professional skills. I also got to connect with the other interns in my cohort.”

How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success?:

“HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to my success because it allowed me to grow personally, professionally and technically. I graduated high school unsure of how to get ahead professionally and how to stand out, but HPU provided me with the skills to do so. These skills included resume building and networking, but also technical skills such as advanced knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite and many different aspects of design.”

What life skills did HPU help you develop?:

“My networking skills have improved so much since I was a freshman. Attending the career fair has allowed me to talk with people from a variety of big companies which helped improve my confidence when it came time to submit applications for internship programs.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU:

“My advisor Janis Dougherty, assistant professor and program coordinator for the Graphic Design program, has been so helpful throughout my time at HPU. She taught my two favorite classes that I’ve taken at HPU and both have benefitted my portfolio so much. She’s a great person to talk to and be around and I’ve learned so much from her.”

Most impactful moment at HPU:

“My most impactful moment at HPU was getting to hear Steve Wozniak speak. It was really cool getting to see the person who helped start such a huge company, especially one whose products I use daily and have helped me pursue my passions.”

Advice for underclassmen:

“Networking and gaining experience is the best way to be successful after graduation. This helps build your resume and networking skills, and also allows you to really gain a sense of what field you want to go into upon graduation. Another piece of advice I have is to really explore opportunities, and they might not always be on LinkedIn or Handshake. My first internship was found through Facebook, and that experience still very much counts and provided me with a strong foundation for future internship programs.”
