How HPU helped you get there:
“HPU helped me achieve my goals this summer and get where I am now by showing me where to look and helping me find more local sports teams in my area. HPU also helped me by giving me advice on my resume.”
What has your internship experience been like?:
“My internship experience was so fun, and it really reinforced that I am studying what I am passionate about and interested in. It helped me prepare for my future because I learned more about writing on deadline, what it is like on game days and being ready for things to change on the fly.”
How did you use the Office of Career & Professional Development?:
“I have used the Office of Career & Professional Development at HPU for my resume and LinkedIn.”
What life skills did HPU help you develop?:
“Life skills that HPU helped me develop would be how to answer questions in interviews. For example, this summer my interview for the Blues was over the phone, and I had developed how to answer questions about me and what I study.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU:
“It’s hard to pick just one super impactful mentor, so a few of mine are Dr. Nicholas Buzzelli, assistant professor of sports media, Dr. Bobby Hayes, adjunct instructor of journalism and sports media, and Kenneth Medlin, chair and professor of the practice. These three have been impactful because they helped me figure out what I want to do in the sports media industry and helped me discover my love for writing for teams. They have also been super impactful because I know I can go to them for advice. For example, I can show them something that I am working on and find out how I can make it better. These three have also introduced me to some of the connections that I have made since being at HPU.”
What values and virtues will you take with you?:
“Values and virtues the campus helped me develop that I will take with me after graduation are hard work and perseverance, which will help you go a long way.”
Most impactful moment at HPU:
“The most impactful moment at HPU would be my study abroad class this past spring semester. It was most impactful because it was something new. Even though I was with mostly all new people, I made some of my forever friends.”
Advice for underclassmen:
“My advice for underclassmen would be to really connect with your professors because whether you are applying for graduate school or a job, there is a good chance that you will need a recommendation, so having a good relationship with them makes it easier to reach out to them for the recommendation.”
