How HPU helped you get there:
“HPU has given me a strong academic and professional foundation that prepared me to take on new challenges. Through my business and sales coursework, I developed a better understanding of communication, relationship building and the sales process, while experiences outside the classroom helped me apply those skills in real-world situations. My internship was a great example of being able to take what I learned at HPU and apply it in a professional environment.”
What life skills did HPU help you develop?:
“HPU has helped me develop communication, adaptability, time management, teamwork and relationship-building skills. Whether working on group projects, presenting ideas, or balancing multiple responsibilities, I have learned how to communicate effectively and work with different types of people. These skills became especially valuable during my internship, where I worked on multiple projects and collaborated with professionals across the organization.”
What has your internship experience been like?:
“My internship has given me the opportunity to apply what I have learned at HPU while gaining firsthand experience in a professional sales environment. I worked on projects involving sales processes, product resources and AI technology, while also gaining exposure to sales training, forecasting and customer conversations. The experience has strengthened my communication, problem-solving and collaboration skills and given me a better understanding of what it takes to be successful in a professional environment.”
What values and virtues will you take with you?:
“HPU has taught me the importance of building strong relationships, taking initiative and continuously looking for opportunities to learn and improve. I have also learned the value of being willing to ask questions and learn from the people around me. These are values I will carry with me as I begin my career and continue developing professionally.”
How did you use the Office of Career & Professional Development?:
“I have used the Office of Career & Professional Development for resume and LinkedIn guidance, interview preparation, career resources and general support throughout my internship and job search. These resources helped me become more confident in presenting my experiences and communicating my strengths to potential employers. The office has been an important resource as I prepare for the transition from college into my career.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU:
“My most impactful mentor at High Point University has been Professor April Cosner, director of Business Fellows and assistant professor of business communications. She helped me develop my speaking and presentation skills, which strengthened my confidence and taught me how to present myself effectively in a professional setting. She also helped me create a LinkedIn profile and resume that accurately reflect my experiences and that I am proud to share. Most importantly, Professor Cosner clearly cared about my future and took the time to help prepare me for success beyond the classroom.”
Most impactful moment at HPU:
“My most impactful moment at High Point University was joining the Sales Club. It gave me the opportunity to develop my sales, communication and presentation skills while learning from other students and connecting with professionals. Through the club, I was able to hear from and learn about different companies, build professional connections and gain a better understanding of the opportunities available in sales.”
Advice for underclassmen:
“Take advantage of as many opportunities as you can while you are at HPU. Build relationships with professors, get involved on campus, use the career resources available to you and pursue internships or other experiences that allow you to apply what you are learning. I would also encourage students to start thinking about their future early and not be afraid to step outside of their comfort zone. Some of the experiences that challenge you the most can end up being the ones that help you grow the most.”
