Student Justice Application

Before You Apply...

Requirements:

The High Point University Hearing Board is responsible for reviewing potential violations of the Student Guide to Campus Life. The Hearing Board is comprised of Student and Faculty Justices and is advised by the Office of Community Standards. The Student and Faculty Justices educate the University Community on policies and community expectations.

To be considered for membership, applicants must:

  1.      Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7.
  2.      Classification of Full-Time Student.
  3.      Be in good standing with the Office of Community Standards.
  4.      Have at least one (1) full academic year left at HPU.
  5.      Submit at least one (1) letter of recommendation from a member of the HPU Faculty or Staff.

First-year students are eligible to apply if they meet all other criteria. Students on academic probation are not eligible to apply.

Membership Expectations:

  1. Uphold the highest standards of behavior and respect, both on and off-campus. All members are expected to serve as role models to current and future members of the HPU Community and preserve the integrity of the Student Justice Program.
  2. Place your role as a Student Justice as one of your highest priorities while at HPU. Academics should always come first, but the role you serve as a Student Justice should be a close second.
  3. Maintain case confidentiality at all times. Failure to maintain confidentiality will result in immediate removal from the Student Justice program and the offending student will be charged as appropriate under the Student Guide to Campus Life.
  4. Review and adjudicate each case with an open mind. Make determinations of “Responsibility” based on facts, policy, and the preponderance of the evidence. You must leave all personal opinions, club or organization affiliations, and preconceived notions at the door.
  5. Participate in designated/required events. These include but are not limited to, Move-in Crew (fall semester), Student Justice semester trainings (one per semester), and retreats (one per semester). These are required, unless an academic conflict is present.
