High Point University students selected for the Certification in  Guest Relations program will gain an unparalleled experiential learning opportunity at the prestigious Masters Tournament held at Augusta National Golf Club. This program offers participants hands-on experience in customer service, sports management, and professional networking at one of the world’s premier sporting events.

 

By attending this program you will

Application and Selection Process

To ensure that participants are highly motivated and ready to maximize their experience, students must apply to the program. The selection process will consider:

  • Academic Performance and Extracurricular Involvement: Preference for students who demonstrate a commitment to their academic and career pursuits.
  • Statement of Interest: A short essay detailing why the student wishes to participate and how they hope this experience will contribute to their career goals.

Selected students will receive confirmation and instructions on preparing for the program.

Certification Requirements

To qualify for the Certification in Guest Relations, students must:

  • Successfully complete the application and video interview process.
  • Attend all orientation sessions, both at HPU and Augusta National Golf Club.
  • Fulfill assigned responsibilities during the Masters Tournament.
  • Submit a reflection essay upon program completion.

Program Structure

Participants will engage in the following components to earn their certificate:

  1. Pre-Event Preparation and Orientation:
    • Complete an initial orientation with HPU’s Office of Career & Professional Development, focusing on workplace etiquette, patron engagement, and professionalism.
    • Attend an in-depth orientation provided by Augusta National Golf Club staff, covering event-specific protocols and expectations.
  2. Experiential Learning at the Masters Tournament:
    • Customer Engagement and Service: Work directly with patrons in various roles, applying customer engagement skills and showcasing HPU’s values in hospitality.
    • Event Operations and Merchandising: Support event logistics, merchandising, and facility management, gaining hands-on experience in the sports management field.
    • Industry Networking and Observation: Engage with professionals at Augusta National, learning about sports event management, hospitality best practices, and industry standards.
  3. Reflection and Post-Event Requirement:
    • Reflection Essay: Following the event, students will submit a reflective essay detailing their experiences, key takeaways, and the impact of this externship on their career aspirations.
