Destination: SUCCESS. Starting Point: YOU.

Nurses Run in the Family
Katie Gaines, '25, was inspired to become a nurse by her mother, who is a also nurse, and their family’s experience of taking care of a great-grandmother after she broke her hip at age 99. HPU's BSN program offered her small class sizes with state-of-the-art resources and excellent clinical placements. Before graduation, she landed a full-time position at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital Emergency Department in Greensboro, North Carolina.
A Reason to Care
Receiving care and kindness from a nurse after surgery led David Lombardi to become a nurse himself. Originally from Boston where he attended a large high school, Lombardi wanted something different from college. He appreciated the dedication to mentorship that HPU's School of Nursing provided. He wanted a close-knit family atmosphere with big-school resources. He found that - and his career path - at HPU. He built a great group of friends and participated in many clubs and organizations throughout his four years. When graduation came, he was ready to launch his career inside the Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital Emergency Department in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Finding Purpose in Pediatrics
Madi Kee knew she wouldn't be just a number in HPU's Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. She saw how students could foster stronger relationships with caring professors in a smaller, student-centered program. Kee wanted to work in a pediatric emergency room because of a personal experience when she was a patient. Thanks to the skills and resources at HPU, she accomplished that goal before she graduated. Today, she's a nurse in the pediatric emergency department at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Brenner Children’s Hospital. She calls it her "absolute dream job" because it combines her love for emergency medicine and working with children and their families.
