Crush your career goals with the Premier Life Skills experiences you’ll only find at HPU!
For the past decade, HPU faculty have made sure at least a quarter of everything taught has an experiential component. Why? Because professors want their students to stretch themselves, work in the community and find out firsthand what “real” means. Students then discover for themselves that experience brings real-world context to classroom content. And with the university’s opportunities for internships, study abroad, and research, they graduate prepared and ready to go.
"There's more to life than being a passenger."

Experiential Learning at HPU
Research as an Undergraduate
HPU welcomes freshman into a culture of scholarly research as soon as they arrive to campus. While other universities focus on senior research projects, HPU presents research opportunities to students throughout their four-year journey.
Service learning breaks down the walls of the traditional classroom and brings theoretical concepts to life. Through service learning courses, students are embedded with real-world opportunities that relate to course material. Whether it’s English majors tutoring refugee children in literacy, or strategic communication students producing marketing campaigns for nonprofit organizations, students gain valuable skills and strong connections to their community.
High Point University's commitment to values based education and experiential learning propels it forward in innovation. HPU graduates will be builders who discover new ways to solve the old problems; that's what innovation is all about.
We'll practice in an environment where you can fail and know you have a support system to help you. Then when we step into those real-life opportunities, we're ready. We'll hit the ground running.
Strategic Communication Major
I see this as the world's best learning lab where students will encounter problems and learn how to manage them in the moment. You can't duplicate that with a case study, or a role play in a classroom.
