Dr. Christy Knight is an Assistant Professor of Accounting at High Point University. Joining HPU in August 2026, Christy brings with her an extensive professional background within the accounting profession. Her experience includes working as an auditor, in both public practice and industry, as well as an assistant controller, and audit talent development manager. She has worked within the manufacturing and financial services industry for top-rated corporate companies, such as Renyolds American, United Guaranty, Truist, and First Horizon. She also brings several years of teaching experience where she taught Principles of Accounting, Cost Accounting, Auditing, Advanced Auditing, and Information Systems Controls and Risks, at Forsyth Technical Community College and West Virginia University Institute of Technology.

 

Dr. Knight’s research interests include accounting within the financial services industry, fraud, and auditing. Research projects include:

– Individuals’ trust perceptions within the financial services industry following M&A activity

– Concealment of white-collar frauds

– Auditor independence and objectivity.

 

Dr. Knight is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors and Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Community service activities include involvement in financial literacy programs, Habitat for Humanity, and other non-profit organizations.

 

Dr. Knight’s education and professional certifications include a Doctorate of Business Administration, with a focus in Accounting, from the John Chambers College of Business and Economics at West Virginia University; a Master of Accounting, from the Kenan-Flagler School of Business at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; a Master of Business Administration, from the Phillips School of Business at High Point University; and a Bachelor of Science – Accounting, from the Bryan School of Business and Economics at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of North Carolina, a Certified Internal Auditor, and a Certified Fraud Examiner.
