Dr. Lisa A. Owens-Jackson joined High Point University in 2026 after retiring from North Carolina A&T State University. She is a Certified Public Accountant in Virginia and North Carolina. Dr. Owens-Jackson was recognized as the recipient of the 2017 North Carolina Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching. She was awarded Faculty Advisor of the Year at the 2016 International Beta Alpha Psi Annual Meeting. Before returning to North Carolina A&T State University in fall 2009, she taught accounting at Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina and at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois.
Her research concentrates on the use of financial and managerial accounting information in corporate governance and investment decision making. In recent years, she has also completed research on accounting education and diversity in the accounting profession; and she co-authored a book. She has presented research at the European Accounting Association Congress, the American Accounting Association Annual Meeting, the Institute of Management Accountants National Conference, the Lean Accounting Conference and many other regional conferences.
While serving as Interim Dean from 2022 to 2024, she saw student retention, student persistence, and the average GPA improve significantly. She oversaw the development of over $6M in corporate and alumni gifts and led efforts in the development of new graduate programs. She helped to award over $1M in college funded scholarships both years.
She has also served on the Board of Directors for Beta Alpha Psi and chaired the Board for the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants Foundation. She currently serves on the North Carolina Association of CPA Board of Directors (Executive Committee). She has been very active in the community for several decades. She has served as an instructor in the Providence Baptist Church SAT Prep Program for the last fifteen years. She led an Annual Literacy Day program that gave hundreds of books to international students at Doris Henderson Newcomers School from 2015 to 2020. She served as the treasurer for the YWCA of Greensboro Board of Directors, as a diversity trainer for the National Coalition Building Institute, as a Big Sister in Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America for over 10 years.
She earned her BS in Accounting from North Carolina A&T State University in 1990 and entered the profession as a Financial Management Program hire for General Electric. She earned her master’s and Ph.D. in Accounting from The Ohio State University 1996) and Oklahoma State University 2001) respectively. She is originally from Norfolk, VA and grew up in rural Lawrenceville, VA.
She resides in Whitsett, NC with her husband, Mr. Randall Jackson.
