Janis Dougherty is a visual artist, graphic designer, and educator. Her work is diverse and meandering, the physical manifestation of a restless, yet curious mind that enjoys both stability and serendipity. Janis began her career 20 years ago as a medical illustrator after receiving an MFA in Medical Illustration from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She spent the early part of her career illustrating medical and nursing textbooks before her interests led her in the direction of graphic design and visual storytelling. Janis has also been a design educator at High Point University for 13 years.

Janis’s work explores the collapsing and reconstructing of space within the context of a narrative using textures, patterns, and color. Janis has a propensity for combining traditional and digital media in her work along with figurative and architectural forms. Janis has illustrated several children’s books along with her professional body of work for clients and galleries.
