Dr. Ricardo “Rick” Walter is Professor of Dental Medicine, specializing in Operative Dentistry, and Director of Clinical Research at High Point University’s Workman School of Dental Medicine. He also serves as an attending dentist at HPU Health Franklin Street and the Practice of the Future, located in the Workman School of Dental Medicine in High Point.

 

He earned his DDS from the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina in Brazil and completed his Master of Science in Operative Dentistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Adams School of Dentistry in 2005. Over a 20-year academic career, Dr. Walter has held faculty and leadership roles at UNC, taught at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, and joined High Point University in 2023.

 

His scholarship focuses on restorative materials, clinical techniques, and the integration of oral and systemic health to improve patient care. He is co-editor of Sturdevant’s Art and Science of Operative Dentistry, has authored peer-reviewed publications, and serves as an Associate Editor for the journal of the Academy of Operative Dentistry. Looking ahead, Dr. Walter aims to advance patient-centered clinical research while helping prepare the next generation of dental professionals.
