Dr. Chris de Bodisco, Associate Professor of Economics, is an environmental economist who uses econometric techniques to estimate the implicit value of environmental resources such as water and ecosystem services. The purpose of this research is to improve environmental policy design and implementation at the local and national level.
He has undertaken many grant-funded research projects that include collaborative work across universities, regional planners, and local governments. Funded research has led to: the development of maps for future conservation land acquisition in Florida based on ecosystem service priorities while adjusting for the impacts of a changing climate; analysis of the impact on the local economy of green infrastructure adaptations to improve the resiliency of transportation infrastructure in Cape Canaveral, Florida; the effect of future flooding on land development risks in the Halifax River Basin in Central Florida; and the effect of spraying bio-waste on the impairment of local water bodies.
In addition, Dr. de Bodisco enjoys working with students and analyzing how students learn. He has published pedagogical research on how to structure group work among students to improve their understanding and retention in economics classes. His students have presented research in professional conferences covering a wide range of interests including: voter behavior, resale of concert tickets, vote buying, and the effect of previous flooding on current housing values.
Dr. de Bodisco enjoys teaching Environmental Economics, Econometrics, Microeconomic Theory, and Principles of Economics courses. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Vanderbilt University with a dissertation estimating the factors that affect the value of irrigation water across regions in the United States.
