Instructor of Economics
Education
  • B.S. in Economics and M.A. in Applied Economics from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro

Ms. Kat Morand is an Instructor of Economics at High Point University, where she teaches Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, with Labor Economics soon to be added. She joined the faculty full-time after two years as an adjunct instructor. In the classroom, students know her as Professor Kat—a name that reflects her informal, student-focused style. She helps students connect economic ideas to real-world systems, build confidence in unfamiliar material, and ask sharper, more critical questions.

She has contributed to research on gender disparities in academic performance and partnered with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services to help launch Tiered Care Coordination and High Fidelity Wraparound—programs supporting families with complex behavioral health needs. Her work focuses on how systems and policies shape people’s choices, challenges, and opportunities.

She is the author of two economics textbooks—one releasing in Fall 2025 and the other in Spring 2026—designed to present key concepts in clear, accessible ways. Both books avoid unnecessary jargon and focus on connecting theory to power, policy, and everyday decisions. She will begin teaching directly from these texts in upcoming semesters.

A proud High Point native, Kat graduated from T. Wingate Andrews High School, just around the corner from HPU. She holds both a B.S. in Economics (cum laude) and an M.A. in Applied Economics from the Bryan School of Business and Economics at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She continues to pursue doctoral-level research focused on education, policy, and equity.
