Garrett Smith is an Associate Professor of Finance with a deep commitment to fostering student success through mentorship and rigorous academic standards. He challenges students in their coursework, operating from the belief that learning happens most deeply when students struggle with complex material. A proponent of teaching for transference rather than replication, Dr. Smith designs his classes to ensure students can apply financial concepts to novel, real-world situations rather than simply memorizing processes.
Beyond the classroom, Dr. Smith remains an active market participant. He is a Co-Founder of Anydrus Capital, where he serves as a Portfolio Manager for an exchange-traded fund (ETF). His industry experience includes his work helping to grow Three Pillars Wealth Management, an independent firm operating under the Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) Belpointe Asset Management. Previously, he held positions at major financial institutions including Capital One Financial, TD Bank, and MassMutual. This practical background allows him to integrate current market dynamics directly into his teaching.
An accomplished researcher, Dr. Smith holds a Ph.D. in Finance from Florida Atlantic University. His academic work focuses on asset pricing, corporate diversification, and behavioral finance. His research has been widely cited and appears in respected journals such as the Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance and the Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Finance. Most recently, his work has been accepted for a forthcoming publication in the Journal of Financial Research. He is passionate about exploring how psychological factors influence investor decisions—a critical skill set for the next generation of finance professionals.
