Dr. Fink’s motto comes from an oral history interview with a mill worker: “You don’t have to be famous for your life to be history.” Her passion for uncovering, understanding, and sharing the stories of ordinary people who lived extraordinary lives drives her research (including oral history interviewing) and shapes her teaching style. Focusing on modern U.S. history, she has researched, interviewed, published, and curated public history projects on textile workers in the American South, Vietnam veterans, college students, religious leaders in the labor movement, and southern working-class feminists. Before coming to High Point University in 2015, she taught at UNC Chapel Hill and worked for institutions such as the Southern Oral History Program and the Smithsonian Institute.
