Dr. Preston Ford serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of General Dentistry at the Workman School of Dental Medicine, where he is dedicated to delivering patient-centered care and mentoring future dental professionals. At High Point University, he contributes to a collaborative, experiential learning environment that emphasizes clinical excellence, critical thinking, and meaningful patient relationships.

Dr. Ford earned both his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, followed by his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His diverse academic background supports a well-rounded approach to patient care, combining scientific knowledge with practical problem-solving and communication skills.

As a clinician and educator, Dr. Ford believes that patient-centered care begins with truly listening. He emphasizes that every treatment plan should be built around the individual – taking into account each patient’s needs, goals, and circumstances. He encourages students to move beyond procedural thinking and instead develop the ability to think critically, communicate effectively, and partner with patients to determine the best path forward. For Dr. Ford, dentistry is not about treating charts or following formulas, but about understanding and caring for people.

Through his teaching, he is passionate about helping students build confidence, adaptability, and a deep sense of responsibility to those they serve. His approach aligns with High Point University’s commitment to developing compassionate, skilled clinicians prepared to meet the evolving needs of their communities.

Outside of his professional role, Dr. Ford enjoys staying active and spending time outdoors, including hunting, hiking, biking, playing pickleball, and working out. He also enjoys building and home projects, reading, and listening to music. Most of all, he values time spent with his daughter, often playing board games, building with Legos, or creating imaginative forts together.
