Dr. Miguel Sahagun joined the Earl N. Phillips School of Business at HPU as an Assistant Professor of Marketing in 2015. The PSB is delighted to have added a professor with his international background and experience to the Department of Marketing. He comes with extensive corporate experience, having worked for several different manufacturing companies, mainly in the furniture and automotive industries. These included: Deltronicos de Matamoros, Candados Universales, Stone Art-Intermanum, and Galeria Nanahuari. Dr. Sahagun held different positions during this time, starting as an industrial engineer and ergonomics coordinator, and eventually becoming plant manager.
Dr. Sahagun has also served as MBA Program Director at the Instituto Internacional de Estudios Superiores (IIES). Prior to that, he worked as an academic instructor at both the undergraduate and graduate levels at IIES. He was instrumental in designing the curricula for several undergraduate business majors.
During his doctoral studies, Dr. Sahagun worked as research assistant, teaching assistant, and instructor for undergraduate courses at The University of Texas Pan-American (UTPA). He is an active member of the American Marketing Association. He has presented his research at various national and international marketing conferences in Peru, Mexico, Romania, and the United States. He currently has two journal publications and one handbook chapter. His research interests include:
• The process customers go through in order to become loyal customers
• The adoption process followed by customers
• Students’ perspectives of student ethics and college sports ethics
• The process high school students go through when selecting a college
Dr. Sahagun’s doctoral dissertation was published as a book titled, “Consumer Responses to Imported Products: The Product Adoption Process, Antecedents, and Consequences.” The book was released in 2016 with this ISBN: 978-3-659-81680-2.
At High Point University, Dr. Sahagun serves on the PSB Graduate Committee. He is teaching multiple sections of Principles of Marketing. He has previously taught courses in International Business, E-Marketing, Hispanic Marketing, Sports Marketing, Sales Management, and Product and Brand Strategy.
Dr. Sahagun earned his doctoral degree in Business Administration with a Concentration in Marketing from The University of Texas Pan-American (UTPA) at Edinburg, Texas, in August 2015. He earned his master’s degree in Business Administration from The University of Texas at Brownsville (UTB) at Brownsville, Texas, in August 1997, and a bachelor of Industrial Engineering from the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Occidente (ITESO) at Guadaljara, Mexico, in June 1994.
