John Turner

JW Turner, Associate Professor of Music, is committed to empowering students across the university and at all levels. His courses in the music major, Honors Scholars Program, and HPU Lead employ experiential and reflective pedagogy, focus on resilience and growth mindset, and culminate in the curation and presentation of ePortfolios.  

Turner was selected for the inaugural cohorts of both the Honors Faculty Fellows and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Fellows at High Point University and has presented his work with “ungrading” to the European Honors Council. His research in the theory and sociology of Asian music has appeared in Music Theory Online, Education About Asia, and Asia Dialogues, and he has also written a short piece for the Phnom Penh Post.
