A native of Japan, Mayumi Osada holds the Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and the Master of Music and the Bachelor of Arts in music (cum laude and high honors) also in piano performance from the State University of New York at Binghamton. Her teachers include Dr. Andrew Willis, Michael Salmirs, James Giles, Ewa Mackiewicz-Wolfe, and Seymour Fink. Dr. Osada has also studied with Dr. Barbara Lister-Sink in her professional certificate program in injury-preventive keyboard technique. In 2009, she published her doctoral dissertation “The Lister-Sink Method: A Holistic Approach to Injury-Preventive Piano Technique.”

 

Dr. Osada has been on the piano faculty at High Point University since 2011. She developed her love of teaching when she started teaching during her graduate programs. She has also been teaching private lessons at Moore Music Company in Greensboro since 2008. Her foremost goal as a teacher and a performer is to inspire others to create beauty and harmony, helping them enrich and transform their lives, and the lives of others. She encourages healthy musical development through safe and efficient application of the Lister-Sink Method and cultivates a holistic practice of teaching that coordinates the body, mind and soul.

 

With a large collection of toy pianos and instruments from other cultures (singing bowls, bells, etc.), Dr. Osada explores various sound possibilities in her concert performances, sound meditation sessions and private lessons.
