Dr. Stephanie M. Schumacher, O.D., FAAO joined the HPU School of Optometry founding faculty in June 2026. Dr. Schumacher graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science with Deans’ Honors in 2021. Following graduation, she went on to complete a residency in Cornea and Contact Lenses at the Michigan College of Optometry. Throughout residency, she was heavily involved in the development and administration of several didactic courses including OPTM 648 Contact Lenses 1 and OPTM 749 Contact Lenses 2. She was a clinical preceptor for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year optometry students in both primary care and specialty contact lens clinics, as well as a lab supervisor for several clinical procedures labs. She also worked as a consultant for Art Optical, assisting practitioners across the country with specialty contact lens design and troubleshooting. She was awarded the American Academy of Optometry Cornea, Contact Lenses and Refractive Technologies Section Resident Award, and earned her Fellowship with the American Academy of Optometry in 2022. In addition to her teaching activities, she has presented at the Global Specialty Lens Symposium and American Academy of Optometry on the topics of specialty contact lenses and anterior segment disease.
Following residency, Dr. Schumacher founded a specialty contact lens program within an OD-MD clinic based in Oakville, Ontario. During this time, she specialized in refractive surgery co-management and anterior segment disease, and actively oversaw the care of over 100 specialty lens patients.
Dr. Schumacher has a wealth of experience in contact lens education and patient care, as outlined by her time spent in various academic and clinical settings.
